The American College of Corporate Directors , based in Boston, has 1900 public company director members and was the originator of the "Gold Standard" Professional Director Certification.
To earn any of the four levels of Professional Director Certification, a public company director must be enrolled in the American College of Corporate Directors continuing education program that requires a rigorous and challenging commitment. To qualify, Certification candidates must complete a minimum of 40 Credit Hours and up to 150 Hours of courses offered at ACCD Continuing Education Programs throughout the country. The ACCD Director Education courses are taught by professors from the finest business schools in America, including Tuck at Dartmouth, Yale, Kellogg at Northwestern , Stanford and Harvard Business School.
Certifications must be renewed every two years by participating in ACCD continuing director education programs or they expire.
Public company directors holding a Professional Director Certification demonstrate that they have taken the time, and made the effort, to stay current with the fast changing board issues and are better able to represent their shareholders. The Certification remains the "Gold Standard" public company director credential.
